Death is Knocking at My Door

Bang, Bang, Bang...

By Elizabeth DegnerPublished 9 years ago • 1 min read
I've come for you.

So, Death is knocking at my door.

Should I let Him in?

BANG, BANG, BANG!

There he goes again.

He whispers to me through the door that He's come to take my hand.

So, I drown out His knocks with music from my favorite band.

BANG, BANG, BANG!

I slowly approach the door.

I look through the tiny peephole but He isn't there anymore.

I hear a woman scream from just across the street.

I guess I'm not the only one He came here to meet.

I lay down in my bed, knowing the end is near.

And although my brow is sweating, there isn't any fear.

I've come to terms with life and accepted death.

So, I greet him with a smile as I draw my last breath.
