Dear Tomorrow Self,
An internal correspondence
Dear Tomorrow Self...
I hope you are well-rested,
after the recent days we've had.
Goals that keep my lights on,
and lead to stirring sleep.
One foot in front of the other
is how it's been lately,
with too little time to think.
Tonight I rock a baby to sleep
while staring at the misty city skyline.
I must make myself peaceful
because she must be also.
But home still awaits.
And even oh my fond tomorrow,
I don't know what the day may hold.
Excitement and renewal
breaking past boundaries
or relish a rejuvenating reset
finding, securing my anchors
and paving a way
for a new day.

The Fish Song
The room didn’t smell like disinfectants. Its fragrance seemed light and not overbearing. A soft mixture of lavender and mint permeated the space. No beeping machines or any tubes hooked up to four-year-old Kaleeka. Her cacao skin seemed to glow from the light over her head. The family, save for one and the doctors and nurses exited the room like a trail of saints showing their last vestiges of regard.
