Dear Society
Why haven't you changed?
Dear society isn't it funny how half of the time we act like we're on a united front?
We preach about being humane and showing a glimpse of kindness
We have men and women standing speaking to thousands declaring change
Using words of wisdom, freedom, and hope
But have you looked around?
Where is the rehabilitation and revolution we were promised?
Jobs would multiply, homelessness would reduct; that history wouldn't repeat itself
We have men and women in the U.S Army fighting a war in a land of another
claiming it as self preservation since 1775
but wouldn't you be terrorized if someone came to kill you just in case?
So who's the terrorist?
We have all these holidays dedicated to appreciating and giving
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and others focused on the act of kindness
But why is it when you walk the streets you ignore the homeless?
They beg for food or anything you're willing to give
Not daring to stare at least in their direction
And you know you have the money to at least get something small but you don't
Where is the humanity we preach in that moment?
Not bothering to at least say hello
Or what about all the times we protest to have equity and equality?
Why do we continue to dismiss the cases of bullying, sexism, and rape
Why is it that we continue to call this land ours?
Why do we continue to oppress the indigenous?
Why do we continue to dismiss the cruelty of animals?
And why is it that people of colour are continuous victims of hate crimes and death?
Why is it that the news doesn't report every death?
Why do we refuse to acknowledge that we live in a country where white supremacist still run the world?
Before we start criticizing the world
Take a long look in the mirror
Be transparent
Breathe in
Breathe out
Now change.
