dear

a poem about the constant struggle to grow and reach but somehow still be content in the moment

your heart is a forest

that's long overgrown.

your goals and ambitions,

uneven in tone.

trying so hard,

still coming up short.

a face lost in a crowd

of more worthy cohorts.

your pace is too slow,

got to step on the gas.

mind your speed on the dash,

the others to pass.

better to go

fast,

fast,

fast.

be better,

the best,

the sun breaking at dawn.

the dreams that you make,

glowing future you've drawn.

the full moon's reflection

on the water at night.

original and strong,

lean, luxurious and tight.

But

don't forget

to somehow put the rest first.

calm your hunger and drive,

that unquenchable thirst.

deep breaths

in

and

then out.

thank for the stars lighting up the night sky

prayers for those whose lives have passed by

find solace and joy in the comforts of home

for freedom to mind, create and to roam

lest you forget all that you have,

the envy of many,

cream, cherries and mousse,

the desserts of the few,

all of these blessings,

bestowed upon you

ingrate

and

brat

...

...Still...

don't want to lose

even one second more,

life is finite

with no assured encore.

be better,

be better,

Be

Better.

...

Still...

you're more than enough

as you are in this moment.

In fact,

maybe,

a little too much.
