Dear Father's Day

A Daughter's Diary

Dear Father's Day,

Tomorrow is the day. The day that is like any other day and yet it is a yearly reminder. A reminder that has many other families celebrate their fathers, I don't. Many other families will give cards, gifts, and surprises.

But I won't.

My dad isn't the type of father you had in mind when the day was made. No thank yous for making your family scared. No thank yous for always working late. No thank yous for then coming home drunk. No thank yous for making me feel like I'm never good enough. None will be given.

This day is like any other day, except for one thing.

It is a reminder.

It is a yearly reminder of what I'm missing. It is a reminder of the type of father I wish I had.

I know you didn't have this in mind. I know you wanted fathers to be appreciated for what they do for their families.

I know you didn't have fathers like mine in mind.

And for that I'm sorry.

But for those of you can celebrate this day. Hold tight to your fathers. To those men who love, cherish, and protect. You don't know how lucky you are!

Sincerely,

A fatherless daughter
