Dead Dream

By: Brier Kole

As I walk.

The color has drained from the world.

All I see is black and white.

The same shades of gray.

There was color once.

The days are a quick memory that I can’t remember.

The steel in my hands is uncomfortable.

Pride undermined.

Duty replaced with dollars.

There are no more children on their bikes.

The streets quiet.

Society robbed of their laughter.

I dream of the past.

When life was simple.

When there was still color in the world.

I miss the joy there once was.
