Days Like Today

A Poem

The World seems happy today

Thanks to the Sun

Shoulders and thighs are on display

Attached to human bodies that walk around crowded parks

And sit outside restaurants

But these shoulders and thighs are also in translucent boxes

Severed and chilled and waiting to be picked up in supermarkets

Only to be thrown onto a sizzling grill

Similar to the humans being cooked in the Sun.

On days like today

It does not matter if your world is ripping apart

Or if you've attempted to plaster the pieces of life together already

As long as the cancer in our minds exist, will we (n)ever feel truly happy?

But the Sun, on days like today

Offers to baptize us and wash away all of our sins

In exchange for drowning in its heat

But we all smile as we drown

Sweat oozing from every pore

Trickling from our brains towards our chests

That hold the thing that is still beating

Regardless of future rain and snow

Beating forever more.
