Day of the Dandelion
Be Careful What You Wish For
A little girl, running through a field,
came upon an old, feathery dandelion,
and, to get a wish,
blew all the seeds off -
all but one.
The next summer,
the girl came upon another dandelion,
one far from the rest.
With one huge breath,
she blew the seeds off -
all but one.
Many years later,
the girl came back to the field.
In a far corner, by a sweet river,
stood a proud little dandelion.
She ran up to it,
took it gently in her hands,
closed her eyes and
made a wish;
she blew all the seeds off -
all but one.
At once, the river turned black,
the birds all disappeared,
the grass dried up,
all sound became silent,
all colors became dark,
and the girl crumpled to the earth,
clutching the little dandelion.
Her first wish was for happiness,
her second wish was for love,
and after many years
without love or happiness,
she wished for life.
