Darkness

A Poem I Wrote About Fighting Darkness

We all have fears. Mine just happens to be the dark. Credit to picture owner. D.

The darkness of the night is like the shadows of the dead.

It appears and disappears within hours of it being black.

But what truly lurks between the moon and the sun?

Thoughts, anxiety, memories, a voice that does not shut up.

The thought of losing someone,

The thought that someone is going to walk away,

The thought that you are going down a dark path that will end with no happy ending.

These are the thoughts that consume a soul that lies still in the darkness of their bedroom.

The anxiety of walking out of the house,

Of walking out of one's room,

The anxiety of going to school, where everyone's eyes are on one's body,

The anxiety of going to a social gathering knowing you're not good enough.

These are the anxieties that consume a soul that lies still in the darkness of their bedroom.

The memories of one's childhood and how wrong it went,

The memories of a loved one dying,

The memories of one being bullied whether in reality or online,

The memories of the past that make one feel ashamed of their actions,

The memories of who someone was, the memories of what one wants to forget

These are the memories that consume a soul that lies still in the darkness of their bedroom.

Does the sun ever truly rise or does the moon illuminate a dark sky as the wind howls while one's mind chooses to never be quiet?

Does the moon soon hide, leaving the midst of the cold air to feed off of one's soul while they suffer?

Do the thoughts ever truly leave one's mind or do they stay?

The darkness may seem as though it is a twenty-four-hour event

But truth be told, it is an endless curse

Sent above from the Egyptian gods and no one can stop them.

Therefore we must embrace these dark thoughts,

Anxieties, and memories that consume us.

We must fight back until the moon disappears with the cold misty air it brings.

We must fight the demons in our minds until the sunlight lights up the sky and we can once more be at peace.

We must fend for ourselves,

we must get rid of each of these traumatizing words.

We must battle until we are left victors,

And only then, will we have defeated the darkness.

Here are some nightly sounds to listen to while you read this. Or maybe to fall asleep to. Credit to the video creator.
