Dangling Distractions
A poem
Dancing, dangling distractions, gleefully dragging our minds away…
Internal dialogue nagging, intense concentration needed to stay focused.
Simply resisting those delightful things, dopamine-inducing frolicking temptations
Terribly, our minds betray us, reaching for cell phones or bottles of beer,
Racing thoughts run through our minds, if only we could just….
…achieve the greatness to which we aspire, without the constant consistency required!
Coffee, now, and perhaps some respite, from the words that we’re required to write
Tasty, warm, and reassuring, perhaps now those words will come
I don’t know how long I’ll try, to express here what I feel inside
On and on distractions come; if it’s not “Mum,” it’s wagging tails,
No brief let up, dancing distractions will thwart our purpose.
