Dancing To The Bank

Music blasting through my tiny flat,

Neighbours wondering where my mind was at,

I checked the ticket twenty times or more,

Then screamed so loud they heard me next door.

Dancing wildly in my old worn shoes,

Crying hard with shocking happy news,

Every bill that kept me up at night,

Suddenly grew smaller out of sight.

Straight to town with shaking hands I ran,

Clutching tightly to that winning plan,

Bank staff staring as I spun around,

Laughing loudly nearly hit the ground.

Coffee splashed across a suited man,

Still I danced because now life looked grand,

One old lady clapped and joined me too,

Soon the whole bank lobby danced in view.

No more counting pennies for the rent,

No more fear of where the heating went,

No more empty cupboards late at night,

Now my children’s futures shining bright.

Bought my mother flowers big and red,

Paid the leaking roof above her head,

Gave my brother cash to clear his debt,

Best feeling I have ever tasted yet.

Lottery dreams filling every street,

Ordinary hearts skip a hopeful beat,

Most keep trying though they never win,

Still that tiny hope lives deep within.

I still laugh whenever I walk past,

Thinking how that crazy day went fast,

Dancing all the way beside the queue,

Million pounds can make you silly too.
