I flex and struggle
Strain and smile
Unable to maintain
A serene demeanor
Performing for an
Empty popcorn bag
Half buried on the beach
In marine rubble
π ΰ½ΌββοΈππ©°ΰΎΰ½²
A ballerina forced to dance
On hot, dry sand
With every treacherous step
Toes sink and slip
Over-rotation
Hyperextension
Blisters rasped and rubbed
Bare toes salted and roasted
π ΰ½ΌββοΈπ©°ΰΎΰ½²π
The peanut gallery applauds
Horseshoe crabs and sand fleas
All agree
I performed with great aplomb
Closer, my surveyor creeps
Advancing a single line of grains
Looming ever larger
Just outside my field of vision
The unprecedented level of
Scrutiny adds weight to
My leaps and kicks
π ΰ½Όβπ©°ΰΎΰ½²βοΈπ
Long flat muscles
The layers of my core
Stretch and ache
The corners of my
Mouth and eyes begin to twitch
As I run alone this
Rage-inducing race
π ΰ½ΌββοΈπ
The longer I hold on
The worse the wobble
The worse the wobble
The greater my pain
ππ©°ΰΎΰ½² ΰ½ΌββοΈπ
Sand fills nostrils
Oceanic beads of glass
Scratching my retina
Scorching my face
Slow motion ceases
Inertial momentum carries me
Into the surf I splashingly careen
Callous laughter floats
Yet, the onlookers
They carry on, unseen
π©°ΰΎΰ½²π ΰ½ΌββοΈπ
Wet and broken
Sinking into the sand
Soaked by the salty ocean
Failed at my impossible task
I accept my fate
Letting the waves crash
As they carry me away
Erily floating faces
Stare into deadened eyes
Snickers cloud my mind
As Iβm battered by
The waves of time
