Dancing Barefoot

To the Silence Lingering in the Humid Air

Summer wine wafting down the lane

As twilight twists the night toward dawn

My fractured heart forgot to mend

Underneath the midnight moon

~~~
Dancing barefoot on the ballroom floor
To the silence lingering in the humid air
Once upon a fairytale
I dreamt of your hand in mine
~~~

Tattered dress sways in the darkness

Ribbons and bows threadbare and worn

A thousand nights have passed us by

But memories forgot to fade

~~~
The music played hauntingly
Whilst I waited for you, my love
Who wandered beyond the veil
Dark magic seeped within your veins
~~~

I push away the ash and soot

Your laughter echoes in my mind

Shadows of the man you were

Frozen moments, better left forgotten

~~~
One last glance at the ruins
Childish dreams stolen by a potion
The forgotten curse upon your lips
Until everything you were, was no more
~~~

No fairytale, princess ending

No diamond tiara or golden wedding bands

No royal court to curtsey to

But a new spark blooms

As the summer wine wafts down the lane
