Dance Like No-One Is Watching

The rarity of authenticity

"Dance like no one is watching!" they cry,

As if you are not watching, and will not judge

They say, "You'll never know if you don't try!"

Fear of failure takes hold, and you do not budge.

*

"Be yourself!" as if your true self was all thing good,

Popular, admired, liked, respected. It was not.

Who You Are was despised, weird, misunderstood

So you hid it away, and hoped that people forgot.

*

It takes courage and time, to grow past the desire

For universal acceptance, validation and praise.

Rules were drummed in, but to dreams you aspire

Never stop reaching, until the end of your days

*

Stop making yourself small, fill the space you desire

Find the people like you, the pegs not shaped for the holes

Dance like they are watching, and cheering you higher

Live like the only restrictions are the ones you chose.
