A-DEENKA'-DA-DEENKA'-DA-DEENKA'

The phone rings..
Its unique little tinkle invading my space..
Over and over..
It plays,
a soft note in my head..
I look at the screen and swipe to answer..
Hello, I say..
And wait for a reply.
No one answers..again..
Ghosts don't answer,
Still you wait on the silence..
Hang on by the fingertips of hope,
but it's faded into a rearview mirror.
All the conversations are gone,
but the timbre of the voice,
the smile on the face,
they remain.
An indelible mark..
and a soothing sip of what was,
to swallow a bitter with a sweet.
There was a birthday came up..
A thanksgiving to reminisce..
To be grateful..
while a melody plays on
