In the mind of fear you breed you own ghosts

D I S T O R T E D

It waits behind my eyes,

lips twitching at the edge.

Cheeks too warm,

teeth too small.

Something’s wrong.

Nothing speaks.

I see it when the quiet drips.

A face like mine,

but not.

Stretched.

Damp with secrets.

Soft with mould.

Eyeballs slither like oil.

Pupils pop.

I think it knows my name.

It bloomed with berries once.

Crushed red on its tongue.

It grins.

The gums too smooth.

The gums too loud.

And the flowers rot backwards.

Every blink is closer.

Every shadow hums its breath.

It watches in the dark behind my eyes.

It wants in.

I keep my lids shut tight.

It seeps. It knocks on my lids.

Once long ago, it was just a dream.

I think it woke, then decided to stay.

Now it moves inside my silence,

swimming in my blood.

disrurbing all my thoughts.

rooted deep beneath my bones.

Waiting for the final blink,

to drown the last of me.

I then will be,

Just a distorted memory.

God bless all of me set me free.

Heel my distorted mind.
