Cutting like a wasp

A poem

My tongue has been cut off

From all the gossiping surroundings

There is nowhere to turn to

The view

In front of me

Blurred

With the despair of others

Mirroring mine

Contradictions every time

I’m trying to get things done

Leaving my mind blank

Then mend matters bit by bit

With no remorse

Achieving my goals

In the shadow of others

Feeling less fearful

Of the future

Because mine is more grounded

Widespread and hefty

Within its reach

And innocent between the lines

Of a child’s mind

In an adult’s body

*

Being like a wasp in life

Busy bee, tough cookie – you can call me that

It helps me recover from it

Gentleman’s agreement

On hurting me

Invariably

And not knowing

How to finally cut off

That umbilical cord

Not quite fitting

To an adult woman capable

Of her maturity
