Curious

A doodle and a poem

By Silver Serpent BooksPublished 16 days ago 1 min read
Curious by Nathalie Daux

The shadows are hungry.

They want to taste the neglect of fallen petals,

Drink the juice of rotting stems.

Their hollow eyes leak moonlight.

They want to see the flattened roadkill.

.

Smoke billows like an electrical fire

From their alien structures,

The shaded vacancy of a beating heart.

They dream in color but live

In black and white.

.

Blood isn't a terror but a novelty.

Brown rot isn't ugly but fresh.

Unseen, unknown, without bias.

Hollow eyes enjoy the sight.

Soak it in and suck it up.

.

The petals disintegrating into the grass,

Eye sockets melting into nothing,

Caskets full of broken promises,

They are sweet little treats

At the end of a long hunt.

.

It is curious.

Hungry for the shades of color

Its grey and black and white body

Will never taste or touch or smell.

It is hungry for the blood of hell.

    Fantastic ❤️

  • The imagery of shadows with hollow eyes and their sinister curiosity creates a chilling atmosphere that captivates the reader. The juxtaposition of decay and innocence, as well as the vivid descriptions, evoke a sense of eerie fascination. Your ability to turn dark themes into something so compelling is truly remarkable

  • This is fantastic

Like DK, I was feeling a little on the side of the shadows...until you gut punched with that final line. Love so many of the lines in this. Just refreshing, evocative, and the image is suitably intriguing! Well done!

Whoa! Sinister shadows rendered almost sympathetic with the characterization of curious. But then the final line! Chilling! Love the illustration! It suits the piece so well!
