Cult Mentality

They cling to their ideals

like a baby breastfeeding

:

Sucking sweet nectar

from the only authority they know

Without questioning its formula

they call it knowledge

:

Comfortably nuzzled up with

the only world they care to know

Less any deviation from their truth

they call the island of the shared mind

'family'

:

When I introduce an alternate perspective

they cling to their weapons of offense

Defending their deeply held beliefs

like a mother clinging to their young

:

Protecting their brain child

Their creation that is

the perfect image in their mind

Regardless of what anyone else suggests

or what truth lives beyond it

:

Like a pack wolves

they snarl at outsiders

Their dogmatism anchored

in shifting sands

:

Identifying heavily with the iron

of the anchor that chains them

to the depths of their beliefs

:

Unaware of the dangers

of anchoring your mind

for too long in one place

:

Not realizing it will rust one day

The anchor dissolved away

:

and if they cannot learn to swim

in the unchartered waters

they fear to explore

:

they will be stranded

on their island alone

:

Crazed,

cannibalizing

any 'others'

that threaten

their 'family'

:

And when their ships sinks

they will

proudly drown

isolated in ignorance
