Crystalline Colour

: a poem

the objects in my room

which

disregarding ideas of minimalism

I keep

zen is not my thing

these objects in my room

like one hundred mirrors

reflections, extensions

of my past and future self

oranges bleed their citrus juices

from the dress on my industrial style clothes rail

onto the floor

bursting with textures;

the fabrics from which I construct

my daily performance

some things which others hide

I show

compensation for all the times in which I've lied

blues run

away with themselves

adorning my pale walls

in watercolour pictures

my grandparents in their house by the sea

I was always the strongest swimmer in my class

blue, blue

the soothing counterpart

to the boasting and stressing

reaching for attention!

these are reds

curtains, rugs and berry bursts

hungry children at christmas time

jumping and clinging

royal and neglected

forcing their way into the eye of their beholder

yet somehow always fondly received

the reds in my room understand me when I'm seething

when I'm bleeding

when I'm loving

they hold me and reflect me

and, oh my

then there are the pinks

only little flavours here and there remain

nothing too 'girly'

just sweet pink fleshy droplets

a childhood dream

compacted into floral designs on pale backgrounds

a dazzling infant fantasy world

squashed down into threads in my scarf

my room

whispers to me

all these things

stories of the ultimate princess castle

the fairytale unfounded

the magic unharnessed

the rainbow unfollowed

surreal poetry
