Like bobbin lace, forming slowly in delicate designs

Winter's first frost creeps across the windowpane

Outside, moonlight sparkes on frosted blades of grass

The wind rustles through a spiderweb, and

Ice crystals touch, musical as a wind chime.

Grass and the last autumn leaves crunch underfoot

Green, red, brown and gold,

All stiff with frost

Breath puffs out in a cloud, warm and white

Curled up in an armchair, hot drink in hand

The first warning of winter, before the snows come in force

Send the children to school, amid grumbles

(it’s only the first frost, not a Snow Day…)

Scarves tugged tighter, walking through a

Winter Wonderland

Living in a temperate environment in the Southern Hemisphere, I had to use my imagination and dim memories of 18 months in Upstate New York when I was 4-5 to write this.

I hope Vocal appreciates it.
