Crystal Caves

A gift I do not want

By Aloy HoffartPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

An infant's cry broke the night

Eyelids squeezed shut

Refusing to gaze upon this broken world

A toddler wobbles

Just learning the balancing act

Making her parents proud

She grows too quick, ever changing

Yet two crystal caves stay the same

The blue tinted windows to her old soul

You wouldn't recognize him now

Lest you catch his glance

Lest you fall into his deep crystal caves

The torrential seas

Sunken deep into his skull

They catch the sailors unawares

They drown in his stare

He hides these waters

They sell him out to old friends and distant family

This young man they thought they once knew

He killed the woman that once lived in his body

That imposter who shared his eyes

His eyes

The only thing left to recognize her by
