Cry of the Abyss

Poetic Fantasy Short Story

By Daniel ColePublished 9 years ago 1 min read

Heard a cry from the abyss

Down, down I sought to save

Farther on than rising mist

Heard a wail that came in waves

I carry on to that descent

Because of courage I am its slave

Heard a groan that night did rent

Past the point of no return

The journey back already spent

Heard a roar that's fire born

And down below a hint of flame

My arms they ache as muscles torn

Too late I learn its eldritch game

The truth resigning me to fall

That cry and roar one and the same

Heard nothing 'fore its swift approach

Nor nothing seen but blinding flash

Not but blazing maw for my encroach

surreal poetry
