Creature

the ritual

I have said

"I'll never forget you" once

you had lost your voice utterly

at the very edge of safety

like that dream we all have

the dust which snared the light

washed out into the quarry and

lifted again in whorls of wildflowers

bringing with them an ancient netting

green in the sky early for the season

along the footpath which leads away

you were a sketch of skin over wire

but speaking through the eyes

of how you should return

to finish your work

I think that's when I said it

surreal poetry
