creation of contrasting realities

what we choose matters

how can it be.

i listen to my right and hear

those machines greedily

cutting the trees

at a pace too fast

to even be fair

in a race for some kind

of finish line.

i look to my left and see

a sky full of morning colours

so brilliantly

painting the world with beauty.

so many humans lost

in a time when we are being asked

from beyond

to slow down…

yet the speeding is picking up

on some fronts.

resource extraction

seems to be at an all time high.

and why?

i can’t help but question

the ways in which

we choose to ignore

the earth

in order to fulfill

the bottom line.

i can’t help

but voice my concern

in these times

when our motivation

seems to stem

from always being on the upswing

of fulfilling our wants.

needs have been met

long ago.

we no longer need to extract

beyond what is healthy and just.

yet we live on

within these systems of total destruction.

trees falling faster

than the animals can find a new home.

displaced within their own territory

and all for the glory of man.

all in the name of greed.

all in the need

to leave a legacy

to the next generation.

but cannot we see

that the best legacy

is that of an intact system of nature.

we can leave numbers

in a trust

for future generations…

but will this truly benefit

if there is no clean air to breathe.

no wild land to know.

no space to touch

the spirit of all matter.

i will cast a spell

onto the earth

and wish for it to touch

the hearts of those

who turn the key of profit & greed.

i will offer a creed

of remembering.

of reclamation of integrity.

of sovereignty for all beings.

i will place my dreams

into the realms of those awake

and ask that those who choose to sleep

with their eyes closed

to the possibility of what could be

will one day soon

become aware

of more sacred ways

to be with the land.

and so it shall be.

and so it is done.

magic gently sprinkled

into the minds of those

whose hands can

turn the wheel

in a positive direction.
