Crawl If You Must

Unreturned

By ΤρυφαῖναPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

Baby…

You’ve got to walk away.

I know, it feels impossible.

You poured your whole heart into it.

You whispered to yourself, "This is it."

Settled. Sure.

You were convinced he was the one.

But the illusion he wore for you…

didn’t last long.

Truth showed up in flashes,

his colors, bold and selfish.

You saw it:

It was never about “we,”

only about he.

What you could give him.

How you made him feel.

How good he looked

standing next to someone like you.

He took.

And when there was nothing left…

he still took more.

You gave beyond what you had,

your all,

and then the pieces of you that followed.

He never matched that energy.

Not even close.

And I know,

believe me, I know,

it hurts like hell to leave.

But it will destroy you to stay.

Because it wasn’t love.

It was unrequited affection

dressed in false promise.

So, if you can’t walk away…

then limp away.

Crawl, if you have to.

Bleed in the opposite direction.

And when you've gone as far

as your aching soul can carry you,

slam that door.

Seal it.

Look back no more.

Because you?

You deserve the kind of love

you keep trying to give away.

And more.

Always more.
