A Poem

Cracked lips in the frozen night’s air

Send tears to wells who don’t care

Slowly welling up until their banks burst

A solitary tear falls down a scarred face

Scars splinter as young lungs fill with

a blistering cold air, unsung wind

The cold night air

whistling through holes of disrepair

Paranoid, you’ll feel their stare

Lingering in disrepute, you’ve been there

You waited for self-care to show itself

Not a selfless act of masochism

Procrastinated self-care

A selfless act of selfish hedonism

Repeated to its death

Incremental self-harm

Damage manifesting years later

It’s too late to turn back

Cry the tears bursting the night

Hold the triggers

Overcome temptation

Break the habit

Don’t be sorry. Have conviction

In the end you’ll break the addiction
