Couch To Grave

And then the universe

Couch To Grave

Laid out on my couch

Mouth open, drool on the cushions

A dress rehearsal for my casket

Skip the shiny silk, the ruching

Stick with the easy clean microfiber

Carry me to the grave

On perfectly indented cushions

A comfortable pad for the moles

Who’ll take up residence in my skull

Hanging curtains from my ribs

Or skip it all, burn me to ash

Arrange my family in a circle

Play a game of pass the parcel

The winner will take me to the desert

Lay beneath the Milky Way

Contemplate the universe

I never made time to see

Instruct them to close their eyes

Toss me into the breeze

(Downwind, of course)

After my dust settles

I’ll lay at rest in a cactus flower

Catch a ride with the next bat

Who can return me to the stars
