Cool Down the Sun, It’s Too Hot

We don’t do heat, not this thick

choking kind where walls sweat

and bed sheets cling like guilt.

Cool down the sun, I am going to burn

My curtains sag, my hair’s a trap

water’s warm out the cold tap

Fans push soup round the room

shirts stick, knees stick, you stick

Windows open nothing moves

just air staring at you

like it knows you won’t sleep

Who asked for this? we queue for rain

moan at grey but this, this is wrong

Streets shine with sweat, nothing’s fresh

the breeze gave up went south, I guess

Milk goes sour, minds go too

someone sneezed, I nearly blew

Give us drizzle clouds with manners

a sky that knows its place

We’re British, we complain, we cope

but this, it is way beyond a joke

Cool down the sun just turn it off

draw the blindswe’ve had enough
