Sweltering gone.
No more trips to water,
Now frigid and gray.
Temporary relief
Gives way to darkness,
Loneliness.
Entering October without you
Feels wrong.
It was your favorite place.
You brought the childlike fun,
The spice,
The spooky.
Your heat is gone.
Only my cold,
Empty
Heart remains
Without you,
Searching for the October
Of years past.
When pumpkin scents
Permeate every shop,
I know I will feel you
In the brisk air.
You touch me
In my dreams nightmares.
Your lingering laugh
Haunts,
Mocks.
You are no longer a ghost
By choice,
But by reality.
You will never feel
The chill
Of a solo October
As do I.
