Confidently Lost

And Happily Found

Losing track of myself

Not knowing who I am

Without my accomplishments

And my favorite “I ams”

Feeling stagnant and out of touch with the successful person

Everyone portrays me to be

Waking up on the days I feel empty

Looking in the mirror wishing to be the person I know I can be

Reciting “I am” affirmations

Brainwashing myself

To be confident, decisive, brave, intelligent

And Unafraid

Of the path that has been laid out before me

Trying to find my way

Down this narrow road that’s

Clouded and leads into the unknown.

With all its twist and turns

I’m lost in the abyss of voices that say

“They know what’s best for me”

Carving the road in their image

Of what they think my end goal should be

Pressuring me to have a map of my life

Drawn out before I even hit my late 20s.

Ashamed of me when I steer off their course.

Questioning my every move

And telling me that I am lost.

But who asked for their opinions

And who cares that I may not know where I am going.

In life, I may never know where a road may lead me

But it is through a series of trial and error

That I may stumble upon the road

Created just for me.

That leads me to a place where I feel the most fulfilled.

So, yes I may not know where I am going

But I am happy that I probably never will,

Because my journey has just begun

And I won’t fulfill their dreams

As they try to live through me.

Instead I’ll find my own way

And play out my story that was always about me.
