Complementary Completion
a twenty year old poem, found and finished
in terms of mathematics you loved me by threes
in terms of the physic we defied gravity
a perfect rhythm, devoutly forbid
in terms of geometry you shut down pyramids
by friday night standards we slept knee between knee
in terms of non-payment i filed bankruptcy
in a love that could not be reconciled
with dry ink and forms
a matter of convention, a matter of norms
in terms of the keyboard the asterisk knows best
to censor explicts and dress the undressed
a body of work cut from marble and stone
could not find the words we fused to our bones
a matter of diction, a matter of tone
in terms of fine art the sculptor’s unknown
in terms of our language we were speaking in tongues
in terms of the breath we were lacking for lungs
a matter of darkness, a matter of light
tonight on the marquee: fight versus flight
hedging your bets as they enter the ring
in terms of the outcome we knew only mourning
a brazen commitment, a treacherous fling
an unsteady winter, a wavering spring
for all of the unreliability
of modern science and technology
all we foil and tarnish
all we break to transmit
in terms of the electric best have a candle lit
