Companions

Alarm goes off and breaks your dreams,

it is time to start the day.

The long hours of work await you,

take one last look at the comfortable bed and walk away.

Rush here, rush there and everywhere

always in a hurry,

but still you have a moment where

you take the first sip of coffee in the midst of all the flurry.

At work you put out fires

you focus on everyone else but you,

the stress of it all starts to build,

you feel like you are held together with tape and glue.

On the way home you stop for food,

just one more night of takeout.

You tell yourself that tomorrow

is when you switch to salads without a doubt.

Walking into the house

you shrug out of your work attire,

it is time to do what you dreamt of all day,

change into pajamas and start the fire.

You sit on the couch

blanket snuggled around,

tea in your hand and movie on the TV

filling the room up with sound.

While wrapped up and relaxed

it is the best part of the night,

with dogs by your side

wanting nothing more than your company, everything feels right.

No matter what the day brings

your trusted companions will always be there,

waiting patiently through the day

to give all the love they have to share.
