Night came.

Shadows crawled from corners.

Shades of blue wrapped rooms

in gossamer curtains of navy blue.

She braced.

This is when the skeletons would dance

in the closet that holds them.

to rattle her bones.

This is when the demons would creep

from under the floorboards

to tease her with her own memories.

This is when the moths would come

to flutter her thoughts,

chewing holes in

the threads of hope.

She lit a candle

and breathed in the warmth

of vanilla soaked light.

She opened doors and windows;

and the room was quiet.

The stars twinkled.

For once

the darkness was comforting.
