Late in the year
Late in our lives
Not too late for a bit of fun.
*
Found October,
Chilly reception
Wearing costumes not to be outdone.
*
We danced and laughed
We ate and drank
Spicy pumpkin concoctions.
*
How time did elapse
How old we became
We were quickly running out of options.
*
But though we tried,
We found no exit
We remembered our previous lives vaguely.
*
Would we stay trapped -
October for good,
All because we were come lately?
*
Then one secret door
Led us beyond
The colorful face-painting booth.
*
At last we escaped,
Only to find
We had returned at the height of our youth.
