Colour-Shifter

I am a colour shifter. I am who I need to be, for who I need to be.

I am red for those who need to be taught a lesson or put in their place. A colour worn only when in fashion and never chosen lightly. Only a few people I have known in my life have seen this colour on me and I sometimes wonder if they know how rare they are? Rare dwarf stars exploding in a flash of wondrous red light and a reminder why this colour is not let out unprovoked.

Then, I can be sweet, quiet and kind. Always on guard but more open to conversation. This is the me most would think is ideal, but unfortunately sometimes this colour is seen to be weak and too inviting. It is a colour to be worn if you wish to be seen and accepted, breathing life into anyones day. This colour is comfortable for a time but it grows heavier the more you have to wear it.

Blue, is a colour most suited to times of gloom. Much like the sky, when the clouds role in; blue lingers and it stains. While, blue is unavoidable, it doesn’t always mean sad. It means more… submissive and more open to one’s emotions. Which can be done when you are caring for others and yourself. You are the cooler blue when you slow down and begin to process difficult things. While, blue sounds scary it comes in so many shades that there is always a shade to suit you and remember it is the first step on the way to Green and being at ease.

I can be all these colours or a mixture in-between. I am a base palate of acrylic colour waiting to be painted on the canvas of the people I encounter. They pick the image they see and they mould the way that colour changes, because in the end.

It is the colours others see,

That determine how I'll be,

But it is only I,

And some kept close by,

Who will see the colour that’s truly… me.
