Colors of Love
Love is a rainbow...there's always two sides.
When you're young,
everything is red
as you're dancing across the floor
and gazing into each other's eyes
after one of you walked up and said hi,
and the whole of the world melts into the background.
When you’re young,
Everything is orange.
When your heart feels all fuzzy
And you know that they’re the one
And eventually orange fades into yellow,
When you realize you’ve talked for hours
About everything and nothing and something in-between
With your smile so wide your teeth are blinding
As they reflect the white nightclub LED’s.
You leave and feel in the green
In the way they walk you up to your front door,
Hold your hand just a few seconds more.
Give you their jacket when it’s raining outside.
You eventually gain the blue you need
To text them the next morning when you wake up
And remember how purple everything felt, and
You’re counting down the days until you see them again.
5…
4…
3…
2…
Red.
When you just snap because you’ve had a long day at work
And they’re the unfortunate target.
Orange.
When they forget an anniversary and you keep giving hints,
And you just want them to get it already.
Yellow.
When the both of you talk more than you listen.
Green.
When they have a new coworker and the two seem pretty close.
Blue.
When the two of you don’t know what to do anymore
Because everything is a purple subject,
Every word is another step on a minefield waiting to blow.
Love is a rainbow…
There’s always two sides.
