You can look at life in various ways. What distinguishes one color from another? There are colors that can be seen even when the world is black and white. Colors that bind to emotions, give sensations - sensations that remain on you as if they were scars. Something this is only yours and that no one else could understand. You hold them tight. You grow up with them. The yellows of the dandelions in the field, the pale greens of the worn-down slide, the dark purples of the sunset. They are forever ingrained in your mind, even though the original owners of the colors are fleeting. And it is beautiful, in a way. How memory binds itself to emotion, reminiscing on the old slide that has long since been thrown away whenever you see a pale green color, feeling the chilly air when you used to sit on the porch and watch the sunset with Mom and Dad. And the deep, red warmth when they held you in their arms, together, and everything felt okay. And you wish it was okay again. You sit on that same porch, the purples and blues and reds of the sunset burning themselves into your memory. Things are so different now, but the sunsets stay the same. It rises, and it sets, each time creating a beautiful canvas for you to paint memories on. With broad strokes, or with thin lines, you paint your emotions, leaving them seared in your brain. And someday, when you look back on the sunset, you will remember that day you wanted to die, or that day you felt like you were on top of the world, the yellows and oranges of the sunset blossoming into a beautiful canvas of memories, that will hold forever, no matter how temporary the moments are.
