Color is For the Living

Color is for the Living

Headstones are gray as ashes

I think as I walk by

True color’s reserved for the living

I ponder the reasons why

Color is for lust

For hatred and trust

Of what rocks and rust will never know

For fiery passion

And calling to action

The courage from deep in your soul

Color is sadness

Complete manic madness

The dark shields as I close my eyes

For anger and pain

For a thundering rain

And emotions shed free of disguise

Daylight and sunset

Bliss, love, and regret

A spectrum of color exists

As the gravestones, unstirred

Before me, a bird

Flies past them and into the mist

surreal poetry
