Cold Waters

A poem

This face has changed.

-

One of life’s lost phases

in the form of a

fading scar.

-

An entirely new form to view,

not as favourable as

the one that you loved.

-

And I can feel your lack of interest

from two hundred miles away.

A forever tense silence.

-

My throat burned for six weeks

from holding messages for you,

but you extinguished the flame

after absorbing its warmth.

-

Now once again, I’m a shivering schoolboy

searching desperately for solace and comfort.

-

I wake up with stomach pain, clinging to sweat-covered bedsheets

praying for a moment to catch my breath.

-

Held tightly beneath the weight of waiting,

I sink into those cold waters

again.
