Cold Feet

My chest stopped moving 3 novembers ago.

my heartbeat replaced by the

faint hiss and crackle of the needle on the record

I sleep with my shoes tied

I don’t know a home that isn’t

in love with its flood water

My back pocket is always full

with

a bus ticket or some other piece of my

travel sized life

Always kept my hand along the wall

searching for a knob or a hinge or a latch

When I imagine myself

I am always leaving

dizzy

on the edge of

whatever’s next

standing still in the snow

cold feet for my own life

sad poetry
