This was how I had always imagined the ocean
New York had disappointed me
It had been dreary and cold
But Florida stole a piece of my heart
Wrapped it neatly
Inside a little white sea shell
And buried it beneath the waves
To keep forever
To remember me
As I would remember it
The ocean was turquoise
A jewel on the crown
Of my queen, Mother Nature
The sand was nearly white
Bleached by the glorious sun
Warm under my feet
I buried my hands in it
I revelled in the gentle warmth
The spring sun warmed me, too
I felt just like a lazy cat
Napping on a window sill
The water was warm
And the sky was endless
I wanted that April day
To last forever
The air was salty
And charged with energy
Not introspective and moody
With dark dormancy
Like New York's beach had been
But instead, vibrant and creative
Leaping with living energy
Bursting with laughter and joy
Like the children frolicking in the surf
I never wanted to leave that warm saltwater
Like the soothing waters of the womb
This place of warmth
It reminded me that
The Earth is my mother
My love and respect for her
Was magnified in that place
The sand was her body
A warm embrace for me
The ocean was her womb
Where all life sprang from
My spirit came alive with gratitude
This beautiful beach woke it up
Showed me where I came from
A place of happiness, beauty, peace
Sometimes I forget where I came from
Sometimes sadness surrounds me
And I forget that I am a child of joy
Born in the image of the Earth's beauty
But when I think of Cocoa Beach
I remember
