That moment it falls into place

Ah, there it is

The click

The gears have been spinning so long

I forgot they could do that

It came as a whisper

Unbidden, unbound from any thought

It fit like a glove, like a well-tailored suit

Comfortable as a bath at the perfect heat

“She never loved you

Because she never knew you.

And you can’t love something

You don’t see to understand.”

Finally it made sense

As my heart stiffened in pain

It made everything fit

As the memories churned over again

There were many signs

And many nights

I was shocked by her words

And now that it’s over

I see like the birds

A bit her fault, the bulk mine

Though the pain seems to steep

Because I truly saw her

My eyes loved what they’d seen

Ah well, that’s the rub

The end of the thoughts

She couldn’t have loved me

I forged what I wrought
