"This Is How I Remember It"

In my mind there are claws

Vapid memories that are yours

That across my mind draws

Reminders of the past

I can dust them away

But at the end of the day

In the evening breeze sway

The same patterns cast

They arrive always unbidden

Peel back layers of the hidden

Whisper thoughts long forbidden

I hate that they're steadfast

The rest is all so faded

Like they have been traded

The harshest ones persuaded

To be those that are forecast

I see it far too vivid

The replay forever viscid

I'm increasingly livid

How long can this last?

This is how I remember

Not a fire but an ember

A forever burning member

Of a life I can't recast.

I was far too young

When these memories begun

Lies coating my tongue

Will the torment outlast?
