Class Clown

Her Laugh

By Alaine HayPublished 5 months ago • 1 min read

I was the class clown in high school; known for making everyone laugh.

Pretty much no one took me seriously, my teachers complained I disrupted the class.

Even though my grades were good, and I was an honor student too.

Humor was my disguise for others, unaware that I was “blue”.

I was the class clown in high school; my choices were to laugh, or to cry.

Unaware there was something deeper, the reason I just didn’t know why.

It was eventually a teacher who noticed, something inside me had changed.

The frustration they had once felt for my behavior, now gone, somehow felt strange.

I was the class clown in high school; but life isn’t funny anymore.

Besides my daughter and family, there are few things that I adore.

Those laughs are mostly tears these days; I no longer have that choice.

Remembering that girl with the contagious laugh; she no longer has a voice.

Maybe she’ll come back one day, and we can all sit and reminisce.

I was the class clown in high school; but these days I just try to exist.
