Cicadian Rhythm

Shedding my suffocating shell

Extended self-concealment

A preparatory rest

Years interred beneath

Disorienting roots

Tendrils of dissociative distress

My Mount Everest

Surmounted, only to discover

I’m overdressed

・・・・・𓆦𓆣・・・・・

A shell of chiton formed over

Years worth of moments, too

Malignant to allow

Light shed upon them

Pressure constantly compacting

Until the dirt is lifted

In the revealing light of dawn

Husk, cracked and split

My unsheathing

The repudiation of my

Former subterranean existence

・・・・・𓆦𓆣・・・・・

I take my place in

The insectoid symphony

Waking days

Few as they may be

Roving, sipping sap

Serenading for free

・・・・・𓆦𓆣・・・・・

Invoking, in the

Elliptical droning voice

Decibels steadily rising

The anguished song of

My soul taking flight
