As I sit on the steps of the church
I look at the thousands of stars half of which have burned out
And I start to think of you
And the way you made me smile
The way your hair layers down to your shoulders
And as the tears begin to form
I wish we could take it back
Back to the days when we were carefree
Now we are teens with the world crashing down on our shoulders
And the un-empathetic realisation that those days are gone
But here tonight on these lonely, cold, church steps I cling to my last memory of your smiling face
And I watch the night turn to day
Like a rose welts away
The conclusion of these inevitable changes sit heavily upon me
So I sit on these church steps
With a whelp in my throat fighting the tears
Realizing I'll fade to a memory
And that's OK because at least I'll be a memory in your head
And I'll always have these cold, lonely, church steps
