Chronicles of living alone...

A poem documenting my experiences of living alone during the pandemic.

As I sit in the confines of my room,

And witness the seasons change from fall to flowers bloom,

I cannot help but realize,

How much life I have missed out in front of my eyes.

.

Living alone in a studio in the pandemic,

With thought bubbles clouding my mind like prayers to a mystic,

Grappling with the monotony and nothingness of days and nights,

Made me stumble and wander into finding the purpose of everyday life.

.

Questioning everything drove me to a rabbit hole,

Walking alone on the crowded streets didn’t help my soul.

Finding solace in friends and family wasn’t a cinch,

Seeking truth in the peace of riverwalks and parks triggered an internal instinct…

.

Did this happen to everyone who lived alone,

Or is this a part of my crisis navigating adulthood turning into a cyclone..?

.

Waking up every day felt like a chore,

Cooking meals to feed oneself and watching tv felt like a bore,

Sometimes felt there’s nothing to look forward to,

Mind felt drained by the rote pattern of everyday things that one performed on autopilot to.

.

Winters came and sunlight was robbed,

Hours and hours stretched out into darkness while my heart sobbed,

Is my life going to pass by staring out the window,

Or is there a beacon of hope that will shine through and take away all my sorrows?

.

Days kept crawling and nights kept passing,

And just like that two years went by in amassing,

All the pauses and the grief,

The strength I had to cope with everything alone left me in disbelief.

.

Reiterating to myself that this won’t last forever gives me hope,

Solidifying the belief that we will emerge stronger and be on the post-pandemic end of the rope creates a scope...

To wish for a better, to hope for a brighter,

To pray for the love and peace of all in it together!
