The Reason for the Season

What’s the meaning of the birth of the babe who was Christ

Swaddling clothes and the stress of spending everything we have

A Silent Night, A holy night

The screams of the pain of the women giving birth dance through the night

Hardly makes for a silent night for anyone in the scene

Peaceful is not a word I would use to describe the birth of Christ

The mooing and bleating of sheep in the cool air of the night

A reflection of our time and the chaos of life

That reflection of the cross from the pain of the virgin brith

Maybe the pain of childbirth is to reflect on the pain we caused Christ when we rebelled against His word

Our sins that took Him to the cross is the same sin that lead us to death

Maybe Christmas was never meant to be about us

Never meant to satisfy our needs or to meet our demands

The sweet holiday spirit that fills the air

The music of sleigh bells of the jolly old man delivering presents to all the good boys and girls

The ornaments and trees and tinsel and lights

They are all just a distraction to pull us away from the light of the season

The real joy coming into the world masked by a shopping spree and hustle and bustle of the 9 to 5

Maybe a silent night needs to become a reminder for us to be silent

To take a moment and realize everything we have will all fade away

Take some time to reflect on what really matters and what will be there forever

The love of the season must not overcome the love for the reason of the season and He is the Christ

Emmanuel, God with us!

Came down to earth to save us by becoming one of us and hanging on a cross

This is the point of Christmas - sacrifice

True love is more than a gift under a tree

True love leaves it’s gift at the foot of the cross

The silence we bear in the night

And the opinions of others we hold close to our hearts that make us wonder if all we do will ever be enough

The constant struggle to make the season as magical as can be is what makes the season more chaotic than quiet and keeps us from finding the peace it’s meant to bring

The reason we shop is to feel the rush of joy of creating a memory we hope will last

But the things we cherish the most are what seem to cause us all the stress

Hope - Peace - Joy - Love

These are what The season is about but instead we find ourselves feeling

Doubt that we’ll be enough

Chaos in our lives

Seasonal Depression overwhelms us

And a hatred for the people that have hurt us the most
