Christmas Came Early This Year
I know it’s only October,
Don’t tell me, I know the date,
But Christmas knocked upon my door,
And I thought, why make it wait?
The pumpkins haven’t had their turn,
The ghosts are forming their queue,
But I’ve dragged out my Christmas tree,
What else was I meant to do?
The shops are sneaking chocolates out,
There’s tinsel hiding on a shelf,
So if they’re starting Christmas now,
I’ll bloody start it for myself.
My tree is slightly questionable,
Its branches haven’t got much class,
But once those shiny baubles went on,
I thought, well look at that — not bad.
I’ve painted Christmas pink and gold,
With purple curtains either side,
It’s certainly not tasteful Christmas,
But tasteful wasn’t what I tried.
Someone will say, “It’s far too soon,”
Someone always has their say,
But they can keep their Christmas boxed,
Until their proper Christmas Day.
I’m getting mine in nice and early,
Before the Christmas poems begin,
Before ten thousand snowy robins,
And Santa poems come marching in.
I’m beating Rudolph to the starting line,
I’ve overtaken Santa too,
He hasn’t even packed his sleigh yet,
And I’ve shouted Christmas 2026 to you.
So yes, it’s early, ridiculously early,
And that’s exactly why it’s here,
I’m getting Christmas through the door,
Before Christmas gets into gear.
And when December finally arrives,
And everybody joins the queue,
I’ll sit back smiling at my tree —
I did Christmas before you. 😂🎄🎅
